Positive Light Emerges After Early Morning Fire

The owner of Image One Design is taking a positive stance after a fire destroyed the family owned business early this morning.

Laura Moore says she is already in the process of setting up a temporary location at the Lakeview Plaza.

Moore says she is also determined to host the CJRL Miracle Marathon in support of the Salvation Army at the end of the month.

She says her thoughts are going out to the family next to the shop who lost their home and has already used the Image One Designs Facebook page to ask the community offer their support to the family.

Laura Madison has created a Facebook group with information about making monetary donations for the family through Copperfin Credit Union and also where clothes donations can be dropped off.

Fire Marshall's Office To Investigate Another Fire on Railway Street

The Ontario Fire Marshall's office has been called in again to look into a
cause of a large fire on Railway Street.

The Image One Designs was engulfed in flames this morning causing
extensive damage to that building, as well as a garage and a nearby home.

Fire Chief Warren Brinkman admits high winds overnight hindered their fire fighting efforts.

Brinkman says the fire has now been declared out and that section of Railway
Street has since been re-opened to traffic.

The building is located right across the street from a home that went up
in flames on October 24th.

Brinkman says the fact the two fires took place across the street and were less than two
weeks apart is completely co-incidental.

Cancer Society Raises Awareness of Pancreatic Cancer

Pancreatic cancer is a silent killer for many Canadians.

Northwest Manager of the Canadian Cancer Society Maria Cabral says 47-hundred people will be diagnosed with it this year, and 43-hundred of them will die from it.

However, Cabral says a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society can go a long way in helping to find a cure.

As this is National Pancreatic Awareness Month, Cabral says they have put this into their strategic plan.

Campbell Raises Concern About Transit Report

Kenora-Rainy River MPP Sarah Campbell would like residents of Northwestern Ontario speak up when its comes to funding public transit in the province.

Metrolinx has  released a report that suggests an increase in the price of gas by five cents a litre and a increase of the HST by one per cent.

This could effect all of Ontario. But the funding would only go towards public transportation in the GTA.

Cambell says residents in her riding  are concerned about the impact it would have on their personal finances.

An advisory panel will meet this month to look at options on funding public transportation across the province.

Rec. Center.

Fire Closes Off Section of Railway Street

For the second time in 10 days, fire has caused extensive damage to
buildings on Railway Street.

A blaze broke out to a home shortly before 1:00 this morning and spread to a garage and also a nearby business on Railway Street.

Fire Chief Warren Brinkman says fortunately the occupants of the house
were able to escape unharmed.

In the meantime, he says that section of Railway Street all the way from Pro-Auto Glass to the Treaty Three railway crossing has been blocked off.

He says they still have a number of hose lines set out in the area and a large
number of their trucks are still in service.

He says the fire is under control, but no cause has been determined.

The fire broke out across the street from another blaze which destroyed a home back on October 24th.
