Social Housing KDSB

Building new non-senior single occupancy units in Kenora, Dryden, Red Lake and Sioux Lookout is high on the list contained in a report on Social Housing Needs in the Kenora District.

Consultant Peder Olson has presented his findings to the District Services Board.

KDSB Chair Rory McMillan says the spaces are needed but cautions they need to review all options before speding capital funds.

The report also suggests the Board refrain from building new units in smaller communities, a notion some on the Board question.


Northern Onrtario Entrepreneur Program

The Ministry of Northern Development has unveilled a new entrepreneur program.

The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund will be offering up to 125-thousand dollars in conditional grant funding.

Minister Michael Gravelle notes the Northern Entrepreneur Program was one of the Rosehart Report's key recommendations.

Residents of any age can apply for the funding immediately and can find an application form online at the Ministry website.


CBC Hockey Day In Canada

CBC will be paying a visit to Kenora on Monday to scope out the city as a possible location for 2010's Hockey Day In Canada.

Kenora is one of three communities in the running to host the annual event.

Councillor Chris Van Wallenghem says they'll be promoting all forms of hockey in the City.

Van Wallenghem notes they'll be showcasing the City's banquet facilities, Museum and Hockey Rinks.
