A mega-merger between two of Canada's largest retailers.
Loblaw Companies says it has a deal to purchase
Shoppers Drug Mart for 12.4 billion dollars in cash and
stock.
The merger would combine the country's largest grocery
retailer and largest chain of pharmacies.
Under the terms of the
agreement, which is still subject to approval, Shoppers will keep its brand
name and operate as a
separate division of Loblaw.
