The Kenora OPP detachment are reminding residents of a few safety issues when it comes to the 2011 hunting season.
>Wear Blaze orange - let's be seen
>Make sure someone is aware of where you are hunting
>Respect property - do not trespass, ensure you have owners consent
>Be sure to have your hunting license with you
Use of Quads on and off road increase during this time of year, ensure that you are aware of requirements to operate a quad on the roadway.
> Quads can be operated on the shoulder of the roadway and move to travelled portion if shoulder is impassable or unsafe.
> Must operate in the same direction of traffic
> Must be 16 and hold minimum class G2/M2 drivers licence
> Must wear a helmet, have valid insurance and registration
> NO PASSENGERS – even if approved passenger seat
> If speed limits 50 km/hr – you cannot exceed 20 km/hr
> If speed limits exceed 50 km/hr – you cannot exceed 50 km/hr
