Trucking Company Fined for Diesel Spill

A trucking company has been fined 10 thousand dollars for failing to clean up a diesel gas spill on Highway 17 east of Kenora.

Day and Ross Incorporated pled guilty in Kenora Court last month to one violation under the Environmental Protection Act.

Court heard that back on April 1st, 2009, a tractor trailor belonging to the company left the Trans-Canada Highway about 30 kilometers east of Kenora.

The fuel tanks ruptured and about 170 liters of diesel spilled into the ditch.

The Ministry of the Environment ordered the spill to be cleaned up within 20 days, but the actual work wasn't carried out until 60 days later.
