The OPP's drug unit in Sioux Lookout has been kept busy in recent weeks.
Two more drug busts were made this past Thursday.
Three people were arrested and more than 15 thousand dollars worth of Oxycondone pills have been seized.
29 year old Joy QueQuish from of Big Trout Lake has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Meanwhile, 38 year old Jason Wilson and 28 year old Dorothy Ombash from New Saugeen First Nation were charged in a separate bust.

Swine Flu Update
Northwestern Ontario has been swine flu free so far in 2010.
The latest statistics from the Ministry of Health show there wereno new cases of the H1N1 virus last week in either the NorthwesternHealth Unit or Thunder Bay Health Unit catchment areas.
Across the province there were just nine new cases of swine flu reported last week, and fewer cases of influenza "A".

Tyrell Obit
A former member of Kenora city council has passed away.
Friends say Chuck Tyrell died Thursday evening at Lake of the Woods District Hospital.
Tyrell served several terms on council and also chaired the finance committee for several years under former mayor Kelvin Winkler.
He was a well-known local businessman, but was slowed by health problems in recent years.

An official with the Ministry of Agriculture says a new abattoir to open next week in Emo will put the district's cattle producers in a good position to help sell their products to local consumers.

The Kenora Chamber of Commerce is once again holding its annual business awards and annual general meeting.
This year's event is sold out and President Dwayne Yaremko says they've had a great response for the business nominations.

Highway 17 Open
Wicked weather conditions last night caused some troubles on the trans canada highway.
This morning, Highway 17 A is open to one lane of traffic following last night's closure.
Meanwhile, Highway 105 has been re-opened in both directions from Vermillion Bay to Red Lake.
Police continue to caution motorists to drive with care during this snow storm.

School Buses Cancelled
All school buses in the Kenora area have been cancelled.

Houston Lake Mining continues to receive encouraging results from its Dog Paw Lake gold property near Kenora.
The Sudbury based company received positive assay results from an 18 channel sample exploration project on the property.
Dogpaw has an extensive exploration history dating back to the 1940’s.
At least five main gold zones and ten documented gold occurrences have been discovered so far on the property.

Impaired Driver
A 36 year old Winnipeg Man has been charged with impaired driving after being pulled over by police near Rushing River.
The OPP say they were contacted about a possible drunk driver operating a U-Haul as it was leaving a gas station in Kenora early this morning.
The driver was finally located around 4:30 a.m. on Highway 71.
He was arrested and officers discovered that he had also been disqualified from driving.

Pest Management
The City of Kenora has received a final report on the Integrated Pest Management experiment
conducted at Central Park over the past three years.
The report says the project has proven to be a success.
The main goal of this project was to limit pesticide use and to educate the general public.
The committee used a variety of strategies for controlling weeds, including mechanical devices, physical devices, genetic, biological, cultural management, and chemical management as a last resort.

The Kenora Detachment says its concerned with a recent rash of mischief incidents.
There have been numerous reports of people throwing items like picnictables on the ice.

Nursing Program Update
Confederation College and Lakehead University are now targeting this fall as the resumption of a community-based nursing program.
The program allows students to earn L-U's Bachelor of Nursing Program at the College's regional campuses, including Fort Frances.

Thunder Bay area MP's continue to tour the area speaking out against the harmonized sales tax.
However, Kenora MP Greg Rickford stresses the NDP members are wasting their time as the tax is a Provincial issue.

The Natural Resources Management Division has been eliminated and fish andwildlife responsibilities are now being split between two new divisions.
Greg Ferrant from the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters says he's notsure what to make of the changes.
Ferrant says there are two new divisions within the MNR, one dealing with policy issues, the other with Provincial Services.

Hunting Fine
A Red Lake man has been fined 35 hundred dollars and prohibited from hunting in Ontario for two years for illegally hunting deer in the Rainy River District.
Conservation officers say they heard a shot being fired last November in Patullo Township.
Two men were spotted walking out of the bush and getting into a truck.
The MNR says a buck was killed in a farmers field and then dragged to a fence near
a road.
James Rousseau was questioned by conservation officers and initially he denied
killing the deer.
But the CO's match the bullet that killed the animal to his rifle.
Rousseau has been charged with tresspassing on private property to hunt and
failing to affix a seal on the deer.

Kenora Chamber of Commerce Business Survey
43 percent of businesses surveyed in Kenora say they expect their company will perform better financially in 2010 than last year.
That was one of the findings from the 4th annual Chamber of Commerce Business Survey.
Joe Fregeau from Meyers, Norris, Penny helped draft the survey and says he was a bit surprised that few business owners felt tourism should be one of the main focuses of the city.
Only 12 percent of respondants felt tourism should be the focus of the City of Kenora's economic revitalization.
19 percent felt there should be more focus on roads and other infrastructure.
